Server-Guided Ad Insertion (SGAI) is an advanced ad-insertion technique with a logical redistribution of responsibilities in the advertisement workflow. The server takes care of the ad break signalling, and the video player handles personalization, ad insertion, and beaconing.

After an ad break is signaled, the player contacts a decisioning server for metadata, fetches personalized ads from the ad server, and triggers ad beacons during playback.
